Retail is an animal not everybody can tame!
This course is going to be about what makes the retail sector tick. We started off with a great introductory session where we discussed what makes managing a retail supply chain so challenging. In the second session, we discussed the various factors that impact retail valuation with specific focus on the factors impacting the most followed metric of supply chain performance "Inventory turns." In session 5 of the course, we looked at the inventory turns of listed Indian Retail companies and tried to identify patterns based on our understanding. References

Aligning Value proposition and RSCM activities
There was collective mouths watering in session 4 in the class as we began the discussion on the Domino's case. Using Domino India (Jubilant foodwork's) annual report and a harvard case, we discussed how a supply chain management in retailing is understanding the factors impacting demand and supply uncertainty and developing supply chain capabilities that help achieve the strategic fit.
In session 5 of the course, we looked at the annual reports of Listed Retail companies from India, and understood the thrust areas of their supply chain strategies and how they are aligned with their consumer value proposition. Managing Retail Logistics
Companies continue to burn millions and billions of VC money trying to profitably sell groceries online. In these sessions, we developed an understanding of the consumer value proposition, key operational focus area and nature of operational expenses of all existing/plausible online grocery delivery models. After having discussed about outbound fulfillment, we also discussed the modus operandi of inbound fulfillment as well. We saw how retailers evolve from retailer driven replenishment to VMI to CPFR as the trust and collaboration within the supply chain partners increases.

Retail Execution

Retail operations are really a confluence of technology, people and processes. In this module, we looked at the warehouse and store management processes, how they are executed with ease using different technologies by the workforce that needs to be engaged and trained appropriately.

Sustainable Sourcing challenges in RSCM
Our last three sessions were dedicated to the discussion on social and environmental sustainability issues in retail supply chain management.
On environmental sustainability, we explored the various green initiatives that retail businesses can take up to help alleviate their impact on the environment On social sustainability, we compared two different social sustainability initiatives: Rugmark Foundation and the Bangladesh Accord to ascertain the critical success factors of sustainability initiatives.
